Title: Rethinking the diffusion of innovations: Knowledge, opportunity and motivation in two case studies

Abstract: Humans excel at complex modifications of their phenotypes through new ideas and new technology. Here I present work on two ongoing empirical projects on the decision-making process involved in the adoption of new, potentially risky, technologies in East Asia and lowland Bolivia. I will also mention a few technological adoptions of my own, towards greater transparency and reproducibility of quantitative social science.
