Schug：第一著者、William Madduxとの共著）が、Psychological Scienceに掲載決定しました。人々が友人に自己開示（＝自分の弱みや秘密を明かすこと）をする程度が、当該社会の開放性（＝関係流動性）に影響されることを示した実証研究論文です。
- February 4, 2010: 最新論文 "Attending inside or outside: A Japan-US comparison
of spontaneous memory of group information"（竹村幸祐：第一著者、大坪庸介との共著）が、Asian Journal of Social Psychologyに掲載決定しました。集団内の対人関係に注意を払う「東アジア型集団主義」と、集団間の地位格差に注意を払う「北米型集団主義」の違いを、記憶課題を用いて検討した実証研究論文です。

others: How cross-societal differences in relational mobility affect interpersonal
similarity in Japan and the United States" （Joanna Schug：第一著者、堀川裕生、竹村幸祐との共著）がAsian Journal of Social Psychologyに掲載されました。なぜアメリカ人の友人同士は日本人の友人同士よりも類似性が高いのかとの疑問に、社会の関係流動性(relational mobility)の違いの観点から迫った国際比較研究です。
- April 1, 2009: 最新論文「外集団脅威と集団内相互依存性―内集団ひいきの生起過程の多重性」（横田晋大との共著）が、学術誌『心理学研究』に掲載決定しました。集団間の差別行動を引き起こす状況手がかりとして、外集団からの脅威の存在と、集団内の相互依存関係の存在とが独立に働くことを実験的に示した論文です。

主な研究テーマ
- 関係流動性：文化と社会心理過程に対する社会生態学的アプローチ：山岸(1998)の指摘する「開かれた社会」（アメリカが典型例） と「閉じた社会」（日本が典型例）では、どのように異なる心理メカニズムが働くのでしょうか。
社会生態学的アプローチ／適応論的アプローチの観点から、社会の関係流動性(relational mobility)が人々の心理過程や心理傾向に与える影響を検討する、純粋に「社会心理学的な」研究プロジェクトです。

- 内集団ひいきと差別を生み出すプロセスの多重性と性差：一口に「差別」と言っても、その原因は様々です。差別を引き起こす原因のシステマティックな差異について、性差や集団の性質の違いなどに着目しつつ、適応論の観点からアプローチしています。

- 集団主義の質的文化差: 近年の研究は、従来「個人主義者」と呼ばれてきた北米人が、実は極めて集団を重要視していることを明らかにしています。では、この「北米型集団主義」は、従来から知られてきた東アジア人の集団主義とは質的にどのように異なるのでしょうか。この問いに対し、私たちは、東アジア人は内集団（自らの所属集団）をメンバー間の対人関係のネットワークと見なし、集団内の調和を重視するのに対し、北米人は内集団を等質的な実体と見なし、外集団と比較して相対的に高い内集団の地位を獲得するよう動機づけられているとの新たな仮説を提出しました。この仮説を、国際比較調査や国際比較実験を通じて実証的に検証しています。

- 表情知覚原理の文化差: 他者が持つ感情を相手の表情に基づいて予測しようとするとき、日本人とアメリカ人は、顔のどの部分に着目するでしょうか。 日本人は相手の目の形を、アメリカ人は相手の口の形を重視して判断するとの新たな仮説を提出し、比較文化実験を通じてそれを支持する結果を得ました。

- 波紋効果 (the ripple effect)：行為の影響が及ぶ範囲に関する信念の文化差: 自分がした行為、例えばあなたが誰かを助けたことや誰かを傷つけたこと、の影響は、どのくらい広い社会に影響を与えると思いますか？この「影響の広さについての信念」に関する国際比較研究を行い、日本人やアジア系アメリカ人の方が、ヨーロッパ系アメリカ人よりも、より広い社会への影響を考えていることを見いだしました。
